Personal Statement
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with teenagers and adults of all ages. Since graduating with a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2003, I have worked in both Indiana and Michigan, providing routine individual treatments for depression and anxiety, substance abuse counseling, and providing group treatment for essential mental health skills.
Outside of professional life, I enjoy living with my wife on the farm that her family has owned since the 1940’s; just outside of Coleman, MI. I enjoy gardening, going for walks in the woods, playing with our pets, and following our favorite sports teams.
Practice Philosophy & Treatment Approach
In his counseling work, Jason strives to create an environment in which people feel safe, heard, understood, and accepted, while they work on their individual treatment goals. Jason takes a person-centered methodology that focuses on an individual’s unique needs and goals while utilizing a variety of empirically established cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. As part of the Meaningful Change treatment team, he believes that an integrated approach works best, balancing a client’s individuality, mind, body, spirit, and community, with empirically supported treatment methods.
Treatment Focus & Specialty
Jason’s approach to treatment has been to help clients alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma with a classic cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) approach, helping them to develop effective coping techniques. Specifically, he emphasizes six core CBT skills: problem solving skills; assertiveness skills; conflict resolution; effective communication skills; emotional regulation/emotional coping skills; and behavioral activation/organization skills. His desire is that individuals will find strength and be empowered to better-handle life’s many challenges.
