Consultation & Supervision Services

Professional Consulting

Meaningful Change: Clinical & Consultation Psychology is pleased to offer a professional consulting service for mental health professionals that are seeking specialized information, clinical case consultation, particular expertise, or to generally confer about their professional trajectory. All consultation services are provided by doctorate-holding practitioners, with at least 10 years of clinical practice.

Patient-Centered Consultation: In this format, the consultation is focused on the clinical needs of a patient or client. Treatment providers who are seeking this service may want expertise on treatment strategy, complicating variables, or a diagnostic reconciliation. Patient-Centered consultation offers a forum for professionals to collaborate about complex patient needs in an confidential, exploratory, and collegiate fashion.

Provider-Centered Consultation: In contrast to the patient-centric approach, this format focuses on the clinician, their development, expertise, and process variables that might be affecting the treatment process. While provider factors routinely arise as a component of patient-centered consultation, the focus here is on chronic, dynamic, and countertransference patterns, with recommendations on how the provider may rise above those challenges.

Mental Health Educational consultation

Different from a clinical procedure, which concludes with patient-specific recommendations, the Educational Consultation is an examination of a domain of expertise that may be of interest or value to the client. For example, the consultee may inquire about available treatments for PTSD, seek education about the course and prognosis of a relevant psychological disorder, collaboratively examine research about a mental health phenomena, or review experimental treatments within this confidential session.

This service may be provided to clients that are residing anywhere.

Clinical Consultation & Second Opinion Service

Similar to a psychological evaluation, Meaningful Change: Clinical & Consultation Psychology is pleased to offer a second opinion service about a patient's diagnosis and treatment strategy. In this procedure, a doctorate-holding psychologist will interview the patient, survey their treatment history, and offer a professional opinion about the course of care with recommendations for the future. The process usually involves 1-2 meetings.

Case Supervision

Similar to patient-centered consultation above, this is the ongoing supervision of a single case. While the consultation service(link to above-4) is often brief, the case supervisory process is ongoing for the duration of the client's services, or until supervision goals are met. Clinicians will often seek case supervision for a new perspective on a challenging case, ongoing examination of clinical issues, skills development, or focused training on a particular treatment protocol (CPT, EMDR, DBT, etc).

Supervision for Licensure

Meaningful Change: Clinical & Consultation Psychology is pleased to offer formal supervision of licensing hours for limited (or temporary) licensed psychologists in the State of Michigan. This long-term supervisory format follows a junior clinician as they work towards their formal professional goals, while accruing their supervised hours towards State licensure. Dr. Sol has been proud to supervise a number of doctoral and master's level psychologists in his career, and is pleased to mentor aspiring clinicians. Since supervisor-supervisee fit is of great importance, especially given the tenure of training, the selection process for this supervisory format is quite selective.
